HTH 205: Equity, Diversity & Design

In this course I explored conceptions of equity and their implications for teaching, learning, and leading. As a participant I was asked to consider my own background and identity. As a participant I discussed and applied structural and pedagogical approaches and examined the High Tech High design principles against the backdrop of inequitable academic outcomes in American schools. In conclusion, I generated a final product describing concrete steps taken to address the essential questions for the course, and reflecting on the intersections between my own identity, student diversity, and school culture.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

  • How can we work together with colleagues to create more equitable learning environments?

  • How do personal cultural identities interact with structural influences such as power, authority, and privilege, to influence equity and inclusion in classrooms and schools?
